Informed Consent & Service Policies
Last updated: April 2026
1. Nature of the Services
By booking and attending a session with Emma R. Whitfield, you are accessing geriatric occupational therapy services, either virtually or at home. The goal is to provide assessment, guidance, training and strategies to improve the quality of life, independence and wellbeing of the older adult and/or their caregivers.
Please understand that occupational therapy does not replace emergency medical care or specialized medical diagnoses. All interventions follow the ethical and clinical principles of the profession.
2. Risks and Benefits
Interventions aim at benefits such as greater independence, fall prevention, cognitive stimulation and reduced caregiver burden. As with any health intervention there are limitations, and results may vary depending on the context, the progression of the condition and adherence to recommendations.
3. Confidentiality and Data Handling
All personal, clinical and family information shared during the booking process and in sessions is strictly confidential. A protected clinical record is kept. This information is only shared with third parties (such as other healthcare professionals) if you give explicit authorization, or if there is an imminent risk to a person's life or safety.
4. Booking and Payment Policy
- Bookings temporarily hold the time slot you selected.
- To confirm the session, payment by bank transfer must be made within 48 hours of the request.
- If payment confirmation is not received in that period, the slot may be released to another patient.
5. Cancellation and Rescheduling Policy
We understand that unforeseen events can happen, especially when caring for older adults. However, to keep an efficient schedule and respect everyone's time:
- More than 24 hours' notice: The session can be rescheduled or cancelled with a full refund.
- Less than 24 hours' notice: No refunds are issued, as the slot cannot be reassigned. A new session may be booked by paying the fee again.
- No-show without notice: The full session fee will be charged.
6. Declaration of Consent
By ticking the box "I have read and accept the Informed Consent" when requesting your booking, you electronically accept these terms. You declare that you have understood the information provided, that you are acting on your own behalf or with proper authorization from your family member, and that you voluntarily agree to take part in the occupational therapy process.
